The Author
Patricia Kummer was asked by her mother, Martha Mary Wehner Brown, to write her story so others could learn from Martha’s experiences and the road to liberty.

Patricia Brown Kummer has been a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) since 1985, when she started her own fiduciary planning and investment practice. The goal was to put the client first and help educate women in the world of finance long before financial planning was a well-recognized profession. She continued to push the envelope and penetrate glass ceilings her entire career. She has mentored more than 40 other advisors, taught classes, and was a long-standing board member of the Financial Planning Association. She started a news station call-in hotline for financial advice and wrote the “Working Money” column in the Rocky Mountain News. She continues to write an educational finance column in the local newspapers monthly.
Pat is the eighth child in a family of nine and one of seven girls. She worked her way through undergraduate school with three jobs and a 23-hour-per-semester course load in order to graduate early and save money. She studied journalism and news casting, providing both services on campus for the duration of her college years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in public relations and the CFP designation from the College for Financial Planning and maintains her title through more than 20 semesters of continuing education. She continues to work to empower women through education and maintains the Code of Ethics as a financial fiduciary. She was instrumental in helping more than 1,000 households attain financial independence.
Married to Michael Kummer in 1977, they have two sons, Jeff, and C. Jay, and four grandchildren—Mckenna, Elin, Weston, and Nolan. They love to travel, bike, hike, and ski together. Pat is active in her Catholic faith and with Mike, supports several charities focused on “The Least of These” including Joy International, Cross Catholic Outreach, and the Denver Rescue Mission. She loves to be with family above all else.
